Job Description:
The Senior Director of Operational Effectiveness (SDOE) will
work to ensure that the organization's metrics for success are
clearly defined, measured, and thoroughly communicated across all
areas of the organization. The SDOE will work to ensure that UTEC's
performance goals are developed with input from UTEC young adults,
leadership, staff and Board. The SDOE is also responsible for
ensuring that the agency's goals and related performance metrics
are understood by all staff and integrated into their understanding
of how their work directly impacts overall agency success. Where
challenges in meeting successful outcomes are encountered, the SDOE
will inform leadership and will work with managers to devise and
oversee the implementation of solutions. A key area of this work
will be in ensuring that a system of coaching is made available to
UTEC Leadership, Directors, Managers and Supervisors in order to
support their capacity to excel in their roles and meet agency
goals and objectives. -Through the work of the SDOE, UTEC will use
real-time data to inform strategic planning, management of day to
day operations, reporting to funders and stakeholders. This work
will also augment the supervision and support of all staff, with an
accurate eye toward UTEC progress, successes and challenges in

Valley (Lowell, Lawrence and Haverhill), UTEC was founded in 1999
as a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping young adults (ages
17-25) overcome the very real challenges of poverty, gang
involvement, unemployment. UTEC reaches 500+ youth annually through
an evidence-based model aimed at reducing recidivism while
increasing education and employment attainment.Supervisory
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Evaluation and Contract Management staff and oversee
the organization's data management, quality and reporting
effectiveness
- Ensure effective time management of all direct reports
- Review and approve all time sheets and requests for time
off
- Provide regular supervision through individual meetings with
direct reports on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
- Provide direct reports with ongoing feedback on progress as
well as any performance concerns
- Document any exceptional performance as well as any concerning
behavior shared with HR
- Perform an annual written performance review with each direct
report
- Identify areas for professional growth for all direct reports
and align with any available resources at UTEC
- Ensure that all staff can identify the impact of their role on
agency-wide goals and metrics for successDuties/Responsibilities:
- Work with Leadership and Director of Evaluation to set annual
performance goals and metrics that define success for all areas of
UTEC programming
- Identify measurable expectations of key funders and ensure
current and future expectations are aligned with agency mission and
performance goals
- Provide training and development opportunities to managers on
best practices for utilization of data in setting performance
goals
- Support leadership's capacity to manage and monitor the
strategic operations and projects of the organization through the
establishment of routine reporting and a robust project management
framework and business improvement support tools throughout the
organization
- Developing a program for ensuring that the overall agency
outcomes are visible and easily understood throughout the
organization and integrated into all pertinent meetings
- In collaboration with the Chief People Officer, support
supervisors in connecting agency-wide metrics to individual
performance goals, objectives and measures for themselves, their
teams and individual employees
- Develop and maintain detailed understanding of the expectations
of all key funders. Work with the development teams to inform the
setting of expectations with them and, by tracking and reporting on
metrics, -ensure that the agency's responsibility to these partners
is delivered and reported on accurately and on time
- Oversight of the development and regular reporting via
effective data dashboards -
- Supervision of the Director of Evaluation, Data Analyst, and
Contract Manager
- Development of a program of executive coaching designed to
support managers capacity to meet UTEC's performance goals
- Through the coaching program, identify needs for staff
development among all levels of management including a program of
support for emerging leaders
- Identify and provide oversight of a team of contracted coaches
to support this work
- Develop efficient systems for collection of information on
agency performance and updating as necessary
- Gather and analyze cross-functional performance data
- Design and review policies related to employee performance as
related to attainment of agency metrics and effectiveness of
coaching support providedSkills and Experience:
- -Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of professional
experience in nonprofit or business management, including
supervision of staff. (In absence of a Bachelor's degree, seven or
more years of similar professional experience.)
- Experience as a professional coach or mentor is a plus.
Experience in supporting the professional development of staff
through coaching, mentoring and a strengths-based approach
- Background of success in process improvement, change leadership
and change management.
- Analytic and decisive management skills with the ability to
prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics
necessary to achieve organizational goals
- Data analysis, project or strategic initiative management
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, developing and
monitoring performance metrics at the agency, department and
individual level
- Ability to engage a broad range of -stakeholders (young adults,
staff and board members) in the understanding and effective use of
performance metrics
- Commitment to and understanding of health and racial equity and
strong understanding of the root causes of inequities
- Ability to encourage, inspire, and mobilize others toward
collective and strategic actions
- Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability
to juggle multiple tasks at once
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and
facilitation skillsAbility to work with people across a diversity
of thought, backgrounds, and perspectives
- Ability to effectively lead others, work as part of a team, and
work independently -
- Keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to
high-quality products, customer/client service, timely completion
of tasks and highly effective team interactions
- Proven ability to work confidentially and productively with a
high level of tact, diplomacy and flexibility
- Proficient with technology including systems related to data
generation, tracking and analysis
