About the Continuous Improvement Team - The CI team is a new team at Borrego. Its vision is to support Borrego in its growth, development and ability to scale to meet its mission by improvement at the level of the user. It is directly aligned with the strategic priority of Empowering our people to become the most capable team in the renewable energy industry.

Summary of Position: The CI Business Lead will partner with the Development leadership team to develop and execute strategy designed to improve the tools, business processes, and competency of the Development organization. This position reports to the VP of Continuous Improvement. The team member will excel at both developing and articulating high level concepts as well as the details of implementation. They will be able to see the inter-dependencies of complex business systems and processes without losing sight of the details which must be addressed. The Development Business Lead must be a strong and effective communicator who can humbly balance persuasion with actively encouraging engagement and contribution from the audience. They must have courage, passion, and tenacity to enable them to carry on in the face of resistance and opposition. Above all, they must be passionately committed to the proposition that we must “accelerate the adoption of renewable energy” by taking a human centric approach to our business processes and systems which treats every source of waste as an affront to our mission and our responsibility to be good stewards of the time the people we work for commit to our mission.

Specifically the candidate will be successful in understanding the existing organizational behavior and matching the strengths and weaknesses of the team to the application of the proper continuous improvement best practices. Deep levels of both emotional intelligence and improvement theory will need to be applied within the teams we’ll be working with, if we are to be successful in our goals of cultivating the potential of the business.

Position Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Progress towards our stated goals under our two core capabilities of:

Supporting the business in improvement

Serve as a member of the Development Leadership team staff

Understand the needs of the business team

Develop relationships with the key business stakeholders that support driving continuous improvement of the Development organization over time

Identify and deliver service improvement activity across the business through employing process improvement methodologies (focused on quality and reduction of lead time) and the application of innovative thinking

Lead and facilitate process improvement based workshops to drive ideas and solutions

Identify trends and process variations as part of establishing a continuous improvement monitoring system

Developing our people with problem solving fundamentals

Improve the improvement capabilities of the business teams

Model the thinking and behavior we are looking to cultivate in the business teams

Assist in the development and implementation of a ‘best-in-class’ continuous improvement strategy

Elicit requirements and drive process change using staff interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, business analysis and workflow analysis

Complete post implementation reviews to ensure successful delivery has been achieved and to ensure that improvements can be made for future projects

Goals of the Business Lead

Support the business on their goals and massively improve their productivity

Improving the business team’s ability to improve

Development of key business team members

Development of the CI team members as the department grows over time

Process development through PDCA

Recommendation and guidance to IT team with regards to priorities and requirements

Required Skills, Capabilities and Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience as a Continuous Improvement Leader

Must have experience in leading improvement

Must have an open-minded and growth mindset

Process improvement - PDCA, Kaizens, from the perspective of the gemba/user

Ability to use lean best practices and lead by example for both the CI and business teams

Desired Skills:

A successful candidate may have some of the following skills but more importantly should desire to acquire the following skills which will be learned while serving in this capacity:

Understanding of the Solar Industry

Change management

Deploying process change at scale

Process - IT Integration - Requirement setting, Project management

Change Management - Ability to work through change management steps

Responsibilities of the CI team -

Drive the culture of continuous improvement

Create a sufficiently consistent process that customers do not develop a regional preference and employees are able to move between regions effectively

Build processes which enable the VSM to outperform our competition

Build documentation and training which enable us to scale up rapidly

Development internal and with the business team

Leadership towards business goals using lean / problem solving fundamentals

Facilitation of improvement activities

Support of improvement activities and gemba improvement

Support of business process improvement to enable our IT team to build on a solid process

Ownership of the improvement must be held in the business, this team will work in service to that ownership
