Analyst/Sr. Analyst, Risk Modeling - Model Development Governance TeamCountry: United States of AmericaWHAT YOU WILL BE DOINGThe Analyst/Senior Analyst, Risk Modeling is part of the Model Development Governance Team within Santander's Model Development Department. The Model Development Department is responsible for developing and managing advanced regulatory-compliant risk modeling solutions that are used in the day-to-day decision making of the institution. These models encompass the different lines of business (Consumer, Commercial, and Wholesale), as well as the Treasury. They typically support multiple bank functions, including underwriting, loss forecasting (including stress testing (HCR/DFAST) and reserve calculation (CECL/IFRS 9)), portfolio management, and balance sheet management.As part of Santander's Model Development Department, the Model Development Governance Team is charged with developing and implementing standards and procedures to provide sound guidance on model development throughout Santander, maintaining the model landscape, and managing the archive of model development documentation. The Analyst/Senior Analyst, Risk Modeling serves as an expert resource in the fields of model governance and model risk, and works closely with business leaders, risk management groups, auditors, and regulatory authorities. Additionally, this role will support other department and bank-wide initiatives, such as the Risk and Control Self-Assessment ("RCSA"), procurement and budgetary processes, business continuity, and records management. It is key for the interested candidates to demonstrate superb communication and organization skills, the capacity to multitask and independently manage projects, and the capability to compile and produce clear, concise reports and presentations dealing with highly technical subjects. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in model development and model risk management, as well as the ability to work in a world-class dynamic and inspiring team environment with other talented individuals.Position Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain model development, implementation, and performance monitoring standards, procedures, and templates
  • Provide expertise and oversight to ensure all model governance standards and procedures are interpreted and used consistently and correctly across the Bank
  • Serve as a project manager for the Model Development Department
  • Maintain the Model Development book of work and the inventory of deliverables and code
  • Coordinate, prepare, and present accurate, concise, and high-quality Model Development-related reporting and documentation
  • Contribute to model development and methodology-related interactions and presentations for various audiences, including credit officers, model users, internal and external audit, and regulators
  • Engage in a continuous and fluent relationship with different stakeholders, such as model owners, model developers, model risk management, and external parties
  • Provide expertise and oversight of the department's procurement and budgetary processes
  • Support bank-wide initiatives, such as the Risk and Control Self-Assessment ("RCSA"), business continuity, and records management processes
  • Other projects/tasks as assignedQualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree with some quantitative/econometric coursework (Master's Degree or PhD preferred). Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, or equivalent field is a plus
    • Experience in model governance, model risk management, or model development (or equivalent academic experience) preferred. Experience with financial or regulatory institutions is a plus
    • Project/process management experience
    • Desire and ability to learn the basics of model governance and model risk management. Knowledge of model governance, model risk management, and regulatory expectations for model development preferred. High-level knowledge of modeling methodologies and frameworks (such as HCR, CECL, IFRS 9) is a plus
    • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Microsoft SharePoint and SAP are a plus
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clear and detailed technical writing, editing and presenting analytical information
    • Superb organization skills
    • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
    • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects, efficiently and independently manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
    • Ability to compile and produce clear, concise reports and presentations dealing with highly technical subjects
    • Effectively engage and collaborate in teamwork
    • Capable of independent time management
